Frequently Asked Questions
We know you have questions! See our most commonly asked questions below. Still have questions? Reach out to info@thrivelearninglablv.com, we are happy to answer your questions.
What is Thrive Learning Lab Las Vegas?
Thrive Learning Lab Las Vegas is a microschooling program for homeschooling teens in grades 9-12.
What is a microschool?
Microschools are small, relationship-based, innovative learning environments. Interested in learning more about microschools? Take a look at the National Microschooling Center to learn more.
Is Thrive Learning Lab Las Vegas accredited?
No, Thrive Learning Lab Las Vegas is not accredited. What does this mean for your teen? If you decide to enroll your child in a traditional district-operated public school, the credits that your child has earned while homeschooling with Thrive Learning Lab will not automatically transfer. Please make sure you speak to our team to fully understand how this works.
Can my child still attend college?
Yes! Many higher education institutions accept homeschooled children. If your teen wants to attend college we will discuss this during your road mapping meeting. We will consider possible options, what steps need to be taken and more to ensure that we do not unintentionally close any doors.
What curriculum do you use?
Thrive Learning Lab Las Vegas does not have a set curriculum. Because this is a mostly self-directed homeschooling program, families will select their own curriculum in partnership with Thrive. Thrive has options available and will make recommendations, but curriculum purchasing is ultimately up to the family, with Thrive serving as the facilitator to help guide learners while curating their learning experience. Thrive will have required novels and other texts that will be read and discussed as a group. Some of our curriculum recommendations include things like IXL, Rosetta Stone, Khan Academy, Outschool and more.
What are the mentor/intern options?
Our Thrive team will work with the teens attending to find internships and mentors where requested. As we help to curate educational experiences for teens, we will work with the learners to connect in meaningful ways with the local business community to request intership opportunities and connect with mentors.
What does a typical day at Thrive Learning Lab look like?
There is no typical day at Thrive, so each day that teens attend will look a little different. Some aspects that teens can expect every week are: goal setting and goal checkins, these include thoughtful reflection on progress made; group discussion activities ranging from novel studies to current events, occasionally science labs and more; a chance to work independently on their own studies with our facilitators available for support; meetings with our facilitators to continually curate the educational experience.
Does Thrive Learning Lab take field trips?
We know that learning happens everywhere! Occasionally there will be opportunities for Thrive to travel as a group for a learning experience. These will always be discussed in advance with the parents.
